Terms

How working together works, in plain English.

Real Roots Media is a web design and development studio operated by Afif Bin Alam, a sole proprietor. These terms cover the use of realrootsmedia.com and, unless a signed agreement says otherwise, the services we provide. Questions go to [email protected].

Quotes

Every project starts with a written quote that describes the work, the timeline and the price. A quote is valid for the period stated on it. Work begins once you accept the quote in writing — an email is fine.

Payments

Invoices are issued by Real Roots Media. How payment is split across the project — including any deposit, the currency and the due dates — is set out in your quote and on each invoice.

Changes to the plan

If what you need changes during a project, we’ll agree the change, and any effect on price or timeline, in writing before doing the extra work.

Your content

You keep ownership of everything you give us — text, images, logos and data — and you’re responsible for having the right to use it.

Who owns the work

Once a project is paid in full, you own the final website or software we deliver, including its code. No lock-in. We keep the right to reuse general know-how, techniques and tools that aren’t specific to your project. Third-party software, fonts and services stay under their own licences.

Showing the work

Unless you ask us not to, we may show finished work in our portfolio. Anything confidential stays confidential.

Cancelling

You can cancel a project at any time by telling us in writing. You pay for the work completed up to that point, and anything you’ve paid for work that hasn’t started is refunded.

Other people’s services

Websites often rely on services we don’t control, such as hosting, domains, payment providers and third-party APIs. We’ll help you choose and set them up, but their own terms and fees apply, and we can’t be responsible for their outages or changes.

If something isn’t right

We do our work carefully. If something we built doesn’t work the way we agreed, tell us and we’ll fix it.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim relating to a project is limited to the amount you paid for that project. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under laws that can’t be waived.

This website

The content of this site is for general information. PaperMunch, ESC Predictions and Sortle are products built and operated by Afif Bin Alam; screenshots of them are shown here as examples of our work.

Changes

We may update these terms. If we do, the date at the top of this page will change. The terms in place when you accepted your quote apply to that project.
